Description
Key Characteristics
- Size: Grows up to about 2.5 cm (1 inch).
- Lifespan: Typically lives between 1 to 2 years, though some live longer.
- Diet: Feeds heavily on surface algae and biofilm, but will not harm live aquarium plants.
- Reproduction: They have distinct male and female genders, but their larvae require brackish or saltwater to survive. Because of this, they cannot reproduce or multiply out of control in a freshwater tank.
- Behavior: They are slow-moving and peaceful, but are known to occasionally climb above the water line, so a secure tank lid is recommended.
