Description
- Particle Size: Ranges from 0.5 mm to 1 mm in diameter.
- Color: Deep black, which adds visual depth and creates a high-contrast base for plants and brightly colored fish.
- Texture: Ultra-smooth grains safe for bottom-dwelling species.
Benefits for Aquariums
- Safe for Diggers: Ideal for fish that forage, burrow, or “earth-eat” (such as catfish, cichlids, gobies, and freshwater soles) because it prevents the skin wounds or barbel erosion often caused by sharp gravel.
- Mandatory for Certain Species: Considered essential for specialized bottom-dwellers like spiny eels and freshwater flatfish.
- Plant-Friendly: Aquatic plants root exceptionally well in this fine grade of sand.
- Cleaner than Gravel: Debris stays on top of the smooth sand surface rather than sinking deep into gaps, making routine vacuuming easier.
Important Usage Note
- No Undergravel Filters: Do not use this sand with an undergravel filter system, as the fine grain size can clog or restrict water flow.
