Description
Key Characteristics
- Appearance: Features heavy, opaque metallic scales (often white, copper, or colored bases) that contrast sharply against the body, paired with massive, wide fins forming a half-moon fan when flared.
- Size: Typically grows to around 3 cm to 7 cm (1.2 to 2.7 inches) in body length, excluding full finnage.
- Temperament: Semi-aggressive and territorial. Males must be housed individually to prevent severe fighting.
Care Requirements
- Tank Setup: Requires a heated (around 24–27°C or 75–80°F), filtered, and well-planted aquarium with gentle water flow and soft botanicals like almond leaves.
- Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on high-protein betta pellets, granules, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia.
- Tank Mates: Best kept alone as a showcase fish, though they can sometimes tolerate peaceful, non-fin-nipping community tank mates in larger, heavily planted setups.
