Description
Key Characteristics
- Sinking Ability: It is dense and waterlogs easily, meaning it usually sinks on its own or after a brief soaking period without needing heavy weights.
- Color and Shape: It features a deep dark-brown to blackish tone and typically has solid, blocky, or rugged shapes rather than thin, intricate branches.
- Tannins: It releases a high amount of natural tannins into the water column. This tints the water a warm amber or tea-brown colour and gradually lowers pH to create a soft, acidic “blackwater” environment.
