The electric blue hap is a vibrant freshwater cichlid fish mostly known in the aquarium trade as Sciaenochromis fryeri, though historically and taxonomically confused with the rarer Sciaenochromis ahli.

Description
Overview & Appearance
- Native Habitat: Endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa, living along rocky coastal areas and drop-offs.
- Appearance: Adult males feature a striking, brilliant electric blue body often with a white or light blaze on the dorsal fin. Females and juveniles are dull grey or silver-brown with faint vertical bars.
- Size: Grows up to 11.5–20 cm (4.5–7.9 inches) depending on the exact species and sex.
Aquarium Care
- Tank Size: Requires a minimum tank capacity of 150 to 210 litres for a single male and female group, and much larger (350+ litres) for multiple males.
- Water Parameters: Prefers hard, alkaline freshwater.
- Temperament: Semi-aggressive. As natural piscivores (fish-eaters), they should not be kept with tiny fish or delicate species.
