Key Characteristics & Care
- Size: Most species grow between 5 cm to 12 cm (2 to 4.7 inches) long.
- Lifespan: They live up to 5 years (sometimes up to 8 years) in a well-maintained aquarium.
- Behavior: They are active, peaceful, schooling fish that need to be kept in groups of at least 6 of their own kind to feel secure and display their best colors.
- Tank Requirements: They require a minimum tank size of 15 to 30 gallons (larger as they mature) with plenty of open swimming space and planted edges.
