Description
Overview & Appearance
- Size: Grows to an average length of 4 to 5 inches (10–12 cm), making it much smaller than the giant common pleco.
- Lifespan: Typically lives 5 to 7 years with good care.
- Sexual Dimorphism: Adult males develop prominent, branching fleshy tentacles on their snout and head, while females have very small or absent bristles.
- Genetics: The albino trait is a natural genetic mutation causing a lack of melanin pigment rather than a result of light exposure.
Tank Requirements
- Minimum Tank Size: 25 gallons for a single adult or pair.
- Water Temperature: 22°C to 27°C (71°F–80°F).
- Water pH: 5.8 to 7.0.
