Description
Overview & Appearance
- Color: A pure, reflective silver-white metallic sheen across the entire body and translucent fin edges.
- Fins: Exceptionally long, flowing finnage that exceeds standard koi ratios by up to 1000%, resembling butterfly wings.
- Size & Lifespan: Grows up to 36 inches long and typically lives for 25 to 35 years.
Origin & History
- Development: Created in the early 1980s by crossing traditional Japanese [nishikigoi] with long-finned wild carp from Indonesia.
- Naming: Named and popularized in the United States by breeder Randy LeFever and later adopted by global breeders.
Care Requirements
- Pond Size: Needs plenty of space, requiring roughly 1,000 gallons of water per fish with a minimum depth of 3 feet.
- Water Quality: Requires immaculate, clean water because any fin damage or blemishes stand out starkly against the solid white color.
- Temperament: Highly peaceful, social, and active, making them ideal additions to mixed outdoor ornamental ponds.
