Description
Overview & Appearance
- Origin: First bred in Taiwan around 1986; it does not exist in the wild.
- Appearance: Features a compact, rounded body with zebra-like vertical stripes and a pale white to metallic blue or greyish-blue color that intensifies as it matures.
- Size: Grows up to roughly 10 to 20 cm (3.5 to 8 inches) in length.
- Lifespan: Lives between 10 and 15 years.
Tank Requirements & Care
- Tank Size: Minimum of 100 to 200 litres (30–50+ gallons) to support proper movement and groups.
- Water Parameters: Temperature between 22–28°C (72–82°F) and a pH level of 6.0 to 8.0.
- Environment: Fond of digging, so a soft sand substrate is ideal. Include driftwood, rocks, and caves for hiding spots since they can occasionally be shy.
Behavior & Diet
- Temperament: Generally peaceful to semi-aggressive, slow-moving, and safe for community tanks with similar-sized non-aggressive fish.
- Diet: Omnivorous; thrives on high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes, supplemented with frozen foods (like bloodworms or brine shrimp) and blanched vegetables.
